VIVAnews - The Directorate of Immigration Investigations and Prosecutions detained YK aka JJ, an American citizen. The Pakistan-born American is suspected for allegedly involved in a smuggle of 47 Chinese citizens.

"We detained him on March 16," said Director of Immigration Investigations and Prosecutions, Muchdor, at the immigration office on Wednesday, March 25.

The directorate also found evidence of a money receipt from the victims, notebook, 47 People's Republic of China passports, and cellular phone.

The arrest was carried out due to the alleged smuggle of 47 Chinese citizens. The plan was to smuggle the Chinese to Australia through Indonesia. Six of them were women.

He said that the victims came to Jakarta in three phases. They used China Airlines from Beijing. They arrived on October 21, November 5, and December 18 2008.

Muchdor explained that the suspect, JJ, placed an add in Beijing for a job vacancy in Australia. Victims were obligated to pay around RMB 55,000 (US$8,051). Then they had to go into a fit and proper test in Jakarta to comply with the requirements.

"Later they would be sent to Australia," said Muchdor. But, he added that not all participants passed. The immigration data shows that they have over-stayed more than 30 days. They had been living in a hotel around South Jakarta.
