L'aria salata is a drama directed by Alessandro Angelini about a penitentiary social worker Fabio (Giorgio Pasotti), who was abandoned by his father when the latter was found guilty of murder and locked away on an extended sentence. As a social worker, Fabio's job is to to monitor prisoners and recommend them for day leaves of probation when he sees fit. One day, his father's case file landed on his desk.

Viva Zapatero! is a documentary directed by Sabina Guzzanti, which openly reveals censorship laws that Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi imposed on the country's freedom of speech. TV broadcasting of the satirical program RAIot was censored in November 2003 after Sabina made outspoken criticism of the Berlusconi media empire. After the show was cancelled, Guzzanti tried fruitlessly to get it reinstated. Her struggle resulted in this documentary which won the 2006 Silver Ribbon Award of Best Documentary (Miglior Documentario) awarded by the Italian National Syndicate of Film Journalists  and was nominated for Best Documentary Award at the 2005 European Film Awards and Grand Jury Prize at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival.
