Jambi Immigration Detains Seven Afganistans

VIVAnews - Seven Afganistans were secured by the immigration officers at Sultan Taha Airport, Jambi for not carrying passports.

They were arrested when trying to buy tickets for a flight to Jakarta using Mandala Air on Thursday, March 26. The Jambi immigration suspected that a syndicate had arranged the seven Afganistans to work in Australia through Indonesia.

The seven Afganistans namely are M. Zaki, Hamidullah, Muslim Mudjad, Ismatulalih, M. Yakub, and Shafgat Yanaf. They were taken into custody using two cars from the Jambi immigration.

The head of the Jambi immigration Agus Mustari said that they were still investigating the purpose of the foreigners in Indonesia. "The [investigation] shows that they came from Jakarta to Batam. From Batam, they took a ferry to Kuala Tungkal, Jambi. From that city, they continued using a travel [service] to Sultan Taha Airport."

They were arrested because allegedly violating the immigration law by not carrying passports. The seven Afganistans were still in detention in immigration cells and possibly facing deportation.
