Chance for SOEs Buy Newmont Shares

VIVAnews - PT Aneka Tambang (Antam) Tbk and PT Timah Tbk have yet to assure about taking share divestment from PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara.

"Antam should look into the matter in the first place," Antam Corporate Secretary, Bimo Budi Satriyo, told VIVAnews on Thursday, April 2, in Jakarta.
 
Timah will also previously examine further the chance to buy Newmont shares, "concerning mainly with financing and the due diligence over Newmont," said Timah Corporate Secretary, Abu Bakar.
 
However, he said, the company is yet to have any plan toward State-owned Enterprises Ministerial instruction stating that it is state mining companies which should buy Newmont shares.
 
The Department of SOEs estimated that state mining companies have the ability to acquire 17 percent of Newmont shares. The action will take if the government does not buy the shares.

"We will see which SOEs that is more appropriate and has the ability to acquire. It may be state mining companies," said Minister of SOEs, Sofyan Djalil.

According to Djalil, the success in winning the suit against Newmont in the International Court of Arbitration showed that the government's right in acquiring Newmont shares will be more possible.

Djalil stressed that the department will talk about the share acquisition with several potential SOEs.
