Tandjung Ready to Be Nominated President

VIVAnews - Former Chairman of the House of Representatives (DPR), as wekk as former Head of Functional Group (Golkar) Party, said he is preparing to be nominated as a presidential candidate by Golkar. 

"Golkar should go through a convention because it has been through several phases and is able to improve Golkar's image," said Tandjung on Wednesday, Feb 4.

He said that the convention mechanism was considered as a political breakthrough correlated with Golkar's win in the 2004 Elections.

"Therefore, it was weird that Jusuf Kalla stated that convention has not benefited Golkar," he said.

In fact, said Tandjung, Golkar Party proved the mechanism as helping the party won the 2004 Elections. Jusuf Kalla was then elected Vice President for the 2004-2009 period.

Tandjung deemed convention as the fairest way of determining a presidential candidate.
