VIVAanews – Government foundations have been named as one of the main roots of corruption. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will start evaluating the status of government-affiliated foundations.

“We will evaluate them early February,” said Vice Head of KPK’s Prevention Department, Haryono Umar, to VIVAnews, Tuesday, Jan. 27.

According to Umar, at this time the Commission is still collecting data on the foundations and there are still some governmental institutions that have not given information on the foundations that they own. “There are still some that haven’t reported,” he said.

During the evaluation, said Umar, the Commission will look at several factors, including the amount of assets owned by the foundation and the status of the foundation.

KPK is also currently investigating corruption cases that are related to government foundations. Several high-ranking officials and former high-ranking officials of the central bank, Bank Indonesia (BI), are being investigated, some have been arrested while others have been given prison sentence for using the funds of Indonesian Banking Development Foundation (YPPI) up to Rp 100 billion, in connection with the Bank Indonesia Liquidity Assistance case. YPPI is a foundation under the umbrella of Bank Indonesia.
