North Sulawesi to Become International Gate

VIVAnews - The North Sulawesi province will become the tourism gate of East Indonesia and Asia Pacific countries after the maritime world conference in Manado. North Sulawesi has been known as one of the main tourists' destination in Indonesia.

Three international moments and national in Manado on the 11th - 15th May are expected to raise the national tourism interest as stated by the secretary general of Cultural and Tourism Department Wardiyatmo.

The World Ocean Conference, Coral Triangle Initiatives, and Sail to Bunaken have urged the regional and center government, and private sector to prepare the public infrastructure and means.

Approaching the World Ocean Conference event in North Sulawesi, there has been eight additional units of starred hotel with capacity of 1,300 rooms. "Everyone is preparing to greet domestic and foreign tourists," said Wardiyatmo on a press conference of World Ocean Conference and Coral Triangle Initiatives in Jakarta on Tuesday, March 17.

He said that the promotion of North Sulawesi as the tourism destination of East Indonesia has been going for three years. "Besides making tourism access to the eastern part of Indonesia, North Sulawesi will become the gate for Asia Pacific countries in the future," he added.

The impact on the regional economy and national tourism is information spread of Indonesia tourism around the world.    

The coming of foreign and domestic tourists to Manado will lead them to several tourism sites in East Indonesia, such as Kalimantan, Maluku, Sulawesi, and Papua.

"The more tourists come and spend their money, the better regional welfare will be," he explained.

The secretary ministry coordinator for public welfare Indroyono Soesilo said that seeing the economic chance from the international events, the private sector has invested around Rp 1.5 trillion to build infrastructure and means.

Other than that, the government has also plan around Rp 385 billion budget for transportation and infrastructure repairment. Soesilo convinced that Manado and North Sulawesi will develop into a developed tourism destination in East Indonesia area, and at the same time, it will become the gate for eastern Indonesia and Pacific countries.
