VIVAnews - Democratic Party is targeting to gain 20 percent of votes in every electoral region during the legislative elections in April 2009.

"This is a national party," Anas Urbaningrum, Head of Central Board of Democratic Party of Politics Division, told VIVAnews on Monday, Feb 9.

According to Urbaningrum, the Democratic Party will have equal power in every region. On the contrary, if Democratic Party relies on mass bases on certain regions, it may affect its votes on a national scale.

However, Urbaningrum said that if the votes in the 2004 Elections are taken into account, Democratic Party will still hold on to regions giving significant votes. In addition, the regions will be encouraged to gain more votes.

During the last Elections, the regions contributing significant votes for Democratic Party included Jakarta, South Sumatra, North Sulawesi and most regions in Java.
