Kalla Ready to Be Nominated President

VIVAnews - Chairperson of Functional Group (Golkar) Party Jusuf Kalla said he is ready to be nominated the next Indonesian President if Golkar provides support.

"I have never said 'no' [for president]. I am always ready," said Kalla on Friday, Feb. 20.

The Indonesian Vice President also said he will be well prepared if he should compete with Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who is backed by Democratic Party. Kalla he is ready to do so the sake of Indonesia's progress.

According to Kalla, there are many possibilities in politics. He went on to say that political parties must adopt policies that are consistent with the applicable rules and regulations. "I'm ready to be anything, as long as it is for the good of the people," said Kalla.

The final decision will be made only after the result of the legislative elections comes out. According to the decision of Golkar Meeting of National Board of October 2008, presidential and vice presidential candidates will only be announced after the legislative elections takes place on April 9, 2009.
