VIVAnews - The European Union (EU) has banned all of the 51 Indonesian airlines for flying to Europe since June 2007. The ban was imposed due to Indonesia's inability to provide safety guarantee following the previous aviation accidents in the country.
According to the Secretary General of the Indonesian National Air Carriers Association (INACA) Tengku Burhanudin, Indonesia has met every qualification required concerning procedural and technical requirements in order to gain flight ban revocation. He said that the government is still making evaluation.
"The Indonesian government will always coordinate with the EU as well as the Indonesian airlines whether or not there are problems with the airlines," he said as quoted in the Communication and Informatics Department's Webpage on Monday, April 20.
He added that the government is expecting that the ban will be removed in 2009. "[We] are hoping that the EU will have different opinion over the Indonesia's aviation by June 2009. But we are expecting that the government adds more aviation [supervisory] inspectors," he explained.
He mentioned that the number of inspectors is still less in compared to the number of Indonesian airlines.
