Basic Electricity Rate Remains

VIVAnews - State Electricity Company (PLN) emphasized that the decrease of electricty rate for industries category I-3 with installed power ranging to between 14 and 200 kVA and category I-4 with installed power of 201 kVA, was not a decrease of basic electricity rate.

The decrease was only disincentive cut for industries consuming electricity which exceeds certain power on peak load.

"The disincentive is only for industries," said PLN Director for Java, Madura and Bali Murtaqi Syamsuddin on Tuesday, Jan 13. In addition, basic electricity rate for homes remains.

According to him, the policy was based on peak load figure of Java-Bali system. In fact, industrial customers in the system decreased in number, which resulted to lower peak load.

In addition, the implentation of energy diversification program for power plants managed to reduce the volume of fuel consumption. This has lessened primary costs of electricity supply especially on peak load.

To boost the national economy, the government decided to cut a portion of maximum power rate which is applied as of January 2009. Over-power rate on peak load is cut by three times the normal rate compared to the previous four times of normal rate, applied to industries.
