Victorian Bushfires, Australia

Team May Have Identified Indonesian Victims

VIVAnews - The Australian government is identifying the bodies of whom they suspect to be the two Indonesian citizens missing in Marysville, Victoria bushfire. The Australian government highly respects the help from the Indonesia's forensic team.

"The identification process will take a long time, similar to the Bali [bombing] incident," said Australian Ambassador for Indonesia, Bill Farmer, in a press conference at the Australian Embassy, Jakarta on Monday Feb. 23.

The Australian government will not be hasty in announcing the identification result. The identification process itself has not been finished. "We will verify the result first before we release the identification result," Farmer said.

According to Famer, Australia is touched and grateful for the help from the Indonesia's forensic team. "We are touched by the help from Indonesia for identifying victims," he said.

Dean Lesmana and Rudi, the two Indonesians who went missing in the fire in Marysville, have not been found until now. It has been more than two weeks since they were last seen.

When the fire was ablaze, Rudi and Dean wanted to go sight-seeing to Marysville before they had to start working at a Japanese restaurant in Toorak.

The fire that burned southeast of Australia since 7 February has killed at least 209 people. The rescue team is still trying to recover victims' bodies.
