Police Name Five Suspects in Papua Riot

VIVAnews - Police named five suspects who allegedly set off a riot in Abepura, Papua, on Thursday. One of the suspects was dead.

"They set out the attacks using Molotov cocktail and arrows," said Chief of Indonesian Police General Bambang Hendarso Danuri, during a press conference on Thursday, April 9.

In addition to the four suspects, police will also investigate six more people. "It will be later decided whether or not they will be named suspect," said Danuri.

To increase security control in Abepura, police will deploy more police personnel in the area from Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi.

"The Indonesian Military and the Indonesian Police will take firm measures. This action will surely obey the legal framework," said Danuri.

The current situation, said Danuri, had been predicted long before. Based on the level of security issues prior to the 2009 Elections, police had set three provinces like Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam, Papua and Maluku as conflict-prone areas.
