VIVAnews - The support on the solving of the murder case of the human rights activist, Munir, was voiced by The Indonesian Legal Aid Agency (YLBHI). Together with 14 regional legal aid agency, YLBHI urges President Yudhoyono to act.
"As the highest leader, the President needs to order the Chief of the Indonesian Police and Attorney General to work maximally on solving Munir's case," said the head of YLBHI, Patra M. Zen, at the YLBHI offfice on Friday, March 6.
There are still a lot of works to be done by the police and attorneys. "Although the Attorney General's Office is proposing an appeal, there are still a lot of things to be completed. The names appeared during the trials of Pollycarpus and Muchdi Pr. should be followed-up," he said.
He also thought that the President needs to order the head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) to make another commitment on Munir's case. "The Attorney General must also examine and decide on the appeal independently and fairly, without any intervention and pressure over the court," he added.
The pressure to solve Munir's case needs to be set out. According to Zen, there are several attempts to eliminate or close Munir's case. "The people who were allegedly involved in Munir'a murder attempted to stop the investigation on Munir's case," he said.
The South Jakarta District Court freed Muchdi of all charges. The panel of judges decided that Muchdi was not involved in Munir’s murder. Based on the verdict, the attorney proposed an appeal.
Concerning Munir's case, the Supreme Court has sentenced the former pilot of Garuda Indonesia, Pollycarpus Budihari Priyanto, with 20 years of imprisonment. The panel of judges consisting of Bagir Manan, Parman Soeparman, Djoko Sarwoko, Paulus E Lotulung, and Harifin Tumpa stated that Polly was found guilty of committing a premeditated murder over Munir.
In addition, the Court sentenced the Secretary to Chief Pilot Airbus A330 PT Garuda Indonesia, Rohainil Aini with one year of imprisonment. Aini proved as making false documents for Polly's flight to Singapore.
