A Lion Air jetliner skidded on runway while trying to land in heavy rain at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Jakarta, on Monday, March, 9, officials said.
The Boeing 737-900 was carrying 158 passengers and six crew members from Makassar, South Sulawesi, to Jakarta.
Bambang S. Ervan, Head of Public Communication Center at the Department of Transportation, said there were no signs of injuries and all 158 passengers have been evacuated.
Lion Air Flight JT 793 took off from Makassar, South Sulawesi, at 02.45 p.m. local time and landed at Soekarno-Hatta airport in bad weather at 04.05 p.m.
The accident caused significant damage to the plane’s left wing and front landing gear.
To speed up the evacuation process, the airport authorities temporarily closed the southern runway until this morning.
