VIVAnews - The National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) is targeting 8 for Indonesia's corruption perception index. It is hoped that this score can be achieved through the Regional Action Plan of Corruption Eradication program.
"It is indeed ambitious. But, we won't gain any progress if [the program] is not launched," said Deputy State Minister of National Development Planning on Politics, Justice, Defense and Security Bambang Sutedjo on Tuesday, Dec 23.
Today, Indonesia's corruption perception index is 2.6. Indonesia is ranked 126 when it comes to corruption eradication.
According to Sutedjo, Indonesia's score is the lowest compared to other Southeast Asian countries. Malaysia, he said, is rated 5.2. "Singapore is rated above 9," said Sutedjo.
To achieve it, Bappenas is now preparing a draft on Indonesian mid-term development in 2010-2015. One of the planned measure is to set up the Regional Action Plan. "We will also conduct a Citizen Report Card Survey," said Sutedjo.
He hoped that the plan would assist regional governments in conducting good governance. In addition, all regional governments should also eradicate illegal levies regarding public services and prevent leakage of state finance, both Regional and State Budgets.
Bappenas has launched pilot projects on six regencies and municipalities including Indramayu, Bandung, Pemalang, Jembrana, Denpasar and Magelang. "The projects are aimed to monitor the performance of civil servants, not manipulations," said Sutedjo.
