VIVAnews - The government will allocate infrastructure fund totalling to Rp 5 trillion (US$444.2 million) mainly for irrigation, drinking water, electricity and telephone lines.
The sum, said Deputy of Facilities and Infrastructures at National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), Dedy S. Priatna, is lower than the proposed allocation of Rp 30 trillion (US$2.6 billion).
"The department that gains more allocation is the Department of Public Works," he said on Monday, Jan 19. The remaining fund is allocated to the Department of Transportation, the Department of Communication and Information, and the Department of Public Housing.
The Department of Public Works is planning to use the allocation to handle flood and supplying drinking water. The Department of Transportation aims to use its fund for managing railways. The Department of Public Housing proposed budget focuses on developing housing for Indonesian Military and Indonesian Police personnel, as well as subsidized apartments and proper homes.
The Department of Communication and Information proposed projects for developing such infrastructures as state-owned television broadcasting agency TVRI and state-owned radio broadcasting system RRI, especially information supply in the border regions.
"Of all the proposals, drinking water is prioritized because Indonesia has poor infrastructure," said Priatna. The proper drinking water infrastructure only reaches 18 percent.
According to Priatna, the prepared electricity transmission is only 64 percent while telephone is above 80 percent.
He claimed that the proposed budget of Rp 30 trillion did not obtain approval because the revenues in 2009 are estimated to decrease. However, the allocated fund of Rp 5 trillion will depend on the reviewed revenues in January 2009. "The President will make the decision. It should be in January," he said.
