Rupiah Depreciation

Lack of US Dollar Supply Depreciates Rupiah

VIVAnews - Bank Indonesia assured that the on-going Rupiah depreciation is affected by the global situation. The supply of the US Dollar to financial market decreases.

"Every time the European Central Bank or the United States is about to announce their monetary policies, market will be directly on the alert," said Bank Indonesia (BI) Senior Deputy Governor, Miranda S Goeltom, on Friday, Feb 6.

As a result, said Goeltom, the market will delay the supply of the US Dollar. This will culminate in the tight foreign exchange, which will affect domestic market.

"The lack of supply causes the depreciation in teh Rupiah. However, it is a global phenomenon that almost all currencies are depreciating," she stressed.

On 2.45 pm, the Rupiah was at 11,790 against US Dollar recorded in Bloomberg index.
