PDIP Promises To Prioritize Domestic Investor
VIVAnews - The presidential candidate from Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), Megawati Soekarnoputri, promised that domestic investors will be prioritised in the Indonesian economy. Mega questioned the role of entrepreneurs who often rely on foreign investment.
"Can't the entrepreneurs do it domestically first?" asked Mega in "Entrepreneur Asks, Party Answers" event which is held by the Indonesian Employers Association (Apindo) and Metro TV at Four Seasons Hotel Jakarta on Friday, Feb. 13.
Megawati said that Indonesian entrepreneurs should be able to cooperate to develop domestic investment, and prioritize the nation's needs. One of her concerns is Indonesia's dependency on foreign investment in fields that are related to people's welfare.
"For the fisheries industry. It should be run without relying on foreign investment," said Megawati.
In the event, she also added that the next government should create an agreement so the long-term development concept can be implemented. She took the construction of a double-track railway as an example even though she admitted that the revitalisation of the Indonesia Railway Industry (INKA) during her ruling period was hampered because of limited time.
