VIVAnews - Ad hoc judges of Anti-corruption Court demanded that the composition of the board of judges be retained. The current structure consists of two career judges and three ad hoc judges.
"The current composition should not be modified," said Ad Hoc Judge in Appellate Court, Surya Jaya, on Thursday, Feb. 19. "Law on Corruption Eradication Commission should be referred to," he said during a meeting at the House of Representatives (DPR) presided by DPR Chairperson Agung Laksono and attended by five ad hoc judges, Surya Jaya, MS Lumeey, Hendra Yospin, I Made Hendra Kusuma and Kresna Harahap.
In Article 58 section (2), Article 59 section (2) and Article 60 section (2) of Law on Corruption Eradication, it is specified that the investigation before Anti-corruption Court of first phase, appellate stage and the Supreme Court is carried out by a board of five judges consisting of two career judges and three ad hoc judges.
According to Surya Jaya, the assignment of board of judges' members should not be contested because the current head of court has been distributing cases fairly.
Surya Jaya also said that the presence of ad hoc judges in the Anti-corruption Court is crucial. "The quality of the Anti-corruption Court lies on the independence of the ad hoc judges," he said. If the composition is modified, he said, "Then the meaning of 'trigger' in corruption eradication will disappear."
Meanwhile, I Made Hendra Kesuma went on to say that the House of Representatives (DPR) can directly transfer the regulation on Anti-corruption Court stipulated in Law on Corruption Eradication Commission and Law on Anti-corruption Court.
Like Surya Jaya, Made Hendra also viewed that the quality of the Anti-corruption Court lies on the achievement accomplished by the ad hoc judges.
