Clinton’s Successful Indonesia Visit

In the entry that was originally published on February 20th, the day after Clinton left Indonesia, Hume opened by saying: "This is the rainy season in Jakarta, and U.S. Secretary of State Clinton has just taken the city by storm. Fortunately, the rain held off until just after her plane had departed and she had completed a highly successful two-day visit."

Hume emphasizes some of the importance of the visit. For example: "The visit demonstrated clear U.S. interest in developing our already strong relationship with Indonesia into a long-term partnership based on shared values."

* Cameron R. Hume has served as the U.S. Ambassador to Indonesia since August 1, 2007. He is a member of the Foreign Service, rank of Career Minister. His earlier assignments included Italy, Tunisia, Syria, Lebanon, the United Nations, and the Holy See. More recently he has served as Ambassador to Algeria and to South Africa, and as Chargé d'Affaires to Sudan. He is a lawyer and admitted to practice in New York and the District of Columbia. His foreign languages include Arabic, French, and Italian.
