Two Lion Air MD-90s Allowed to Operate

VIVAnews - Two Lion Air airplanes which were announced qualified to be operated would be used as reserves and would be operated according to the flight route necessity.

The MD-90 PK-LIK and PK-LIP airplanes were certified to be flown and allowed to operate after an audit by the Transportation Department on March 11 until 14 2009.

"Both [planes] are in the Cengkareng airport's hangar," said the Lion Air's director Edward Sirait when reached via telephone call on Monday night, March 16.

The other plane is in repairment process in Bandung according to Sirait. "After [the repairment] finishes, we will propose a maintenance certification," he said.

The PK LIL which was crashed in an accident in Batam was estimated being total lost. Sirait explained that the Lion Air has already had discussion with insurance management. While the five years rent fee of the airplane costs US$20 million.

On a press conference in the Transportation Department's building, the director for Air Transportation Herry Bakti said that the plane incident would not affect the continuance of the negotiation on Indonesian airlines banning in Europe.

"We will still be cooperative and regulatory the repair is subjected to the company's system," he said.

The Transportation Department has also decided to allow two out of five Lion Air planes to operate. While the other two planes have not gone through review and one was necessity.
