Victim Tracing to Be Prolonged

VIVAnews - The South Tangerang government added three extra days for finding missing victims in Situ Gintung incident. There are still 70 missing victims.

"I have requested the SAR [Search and Rescue] team to continue the tracing," said the mayor of South Tangerang HM Saleh at the refugee post main tent in Wisma Kertamukti on Monday, April 9.

Therefore, total time for victims' searching and evacuation added to 13 days after three days extension on last Thursday. Based on the national procedure, the SAR team's job in disaster management is limited to seven days after an incident occurred. But, it is made flexible according to the needs.

Operational staff of National SAR Agency Mumin Maulana said that the search on April 6 is focused on an accumulated-trash spot at Pesanggarahan River's upstream, around 1 kilometer off Cipulir market.

The search will involve two teams. The first team consisted of five personnel, tracing Pesanggrahan river using rubber boat and headed toward the accumulated-trash spots. The other team, also comprised five personnel, directly made a search at the accumulated-trash spots.

The burst of Situ Gintung dam on March 27, 2009, killed at least 100 people. More than 1,000 people lost their homes.
