VIVAnews - Penjaringan and North Jakarta Police Departments dismantled a drug dealing syndicate controlled from behind bars of the Cipinang prison. The network's turnover amounts to billions of rupiah per day.
Police confiscated 19,244 of ecstasy pills, 495.75 grams of methamphetamine and 420 grams of ecstasy materials as evidence.
North Jakarta Police Department Chief Commissioner Muhammad Rum Murkal said that the case began when an employee of Grand Asia Hotel reported finding drugs at the hotel on 29 November.
As the employee tidied up a room which was booked under Andi, the employee found 8,945 ecstasy pills.
However, the police immediately ran into a roadblock because the room was booked under fake identity. "We cannot find the given name and adress," said Murkal.
Police officers then investigated the case and coordinated with Greater Jakarta Police Department to solve the case. They got a lead on a top drug lord initialed MRT, discovered to reside on Jalan Kebon Pala, Pejagalan, North Jakarta.
Police officers then apprehended MRT and seized 10,339 ecstasy pills, 495.75 grams of meth, 420 grams of ecstasy materials, three pills of happy five, equipments for making ecstasy, and masks.
It was discovered that MRT has direct connection with a drug lord, initialed AL, who is serving time in Cipinang prison.
Based on MRT's information, police officers finally picked up AL from the prison and another individual, AK, from around Pejagalan.
Another suspect initialed MH is still being pursued.
"The syndicate is controlled from the prison," said Murkal.
