VIVAnews - The Department of Energy and Mineral Resources has predicted that there will be additional employees in energy and mineral sectors amounting to 150,000 workers in 2009.
Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Purnomo Yusgiantoro said that the additional employees will come from electricity and oil and gas sectors. The new workers will focus on exploration.
However, the government does not deny the fact that there is small number of layoffs in the sectors. Several years ago, the Department of Energy claimed that there would be no layoffs were carried out in the department. "It was a very small number, less than 200 workers," said Yusgiantoro, Jakarta, Wednesday, Dec 17.
For the time being, of 81 oil and gas production sharing contracts, 24,829 workers are being hired. Workers at work contract companies reach 31,515.
Coal companies absorb 71,697 workers; geothermal companies, 22,092 workers; and 16 private electricity companies hire 2,441 workers.
