VIVAnews – Central Leadership Council of Golkar (Functional Group) Party asked its members to patiently wait for the presidential candidates convention that will be held after the legislative elections in April 2009.
“Whoever plans to be nominated please wait patiently until the legislative elections,” said Vice Secretary General of Golkar, Rully Chairul Azwar to VIVAnews.
In any case, said Azwar, Golkar is not preventing its members who wish campaign and to join in presidential candidates convention held by institutions outside the party because it’s their rights to socialize outside the party.
However, party members who decide to join in such conventions are strictly prohibited from bringing Golkar’s name. The party asked its members to respect that wish because Golkar has yet to decide on the presidential candidate that it will support. The decision will be made after the legislative elections. “Therefore, one cannot claim that he or she is a candidate from Golkar,” said Azwar.
The party is currently making inventory of the figures that have a shot in proceeding to the presidential elections convention. It is also currently calculating as to who it would support during the elections. However, Azwar is still not willing to reveal his party’s calculations.
Golkar members that are currently part of the convention are Governor of Yogyakarta, Sultan Hamengkubuwono X, Governor of Gorontalo, Fadel Muhammad, and parliament members Yuddy Chrisnandi and Marwah Daud Ibrahim. The convention they are participating is organized by the National Integrity Council.
