Fuel Supply

Fuel Scarcity, Pertamina to Blame

VIVAnews – An error in the online system of ordering fuel is to blame for the scarcity of fuel since Friday, 2 January, morning.

As a result of this error, a number of fuel stations in Jakarta, the Greater Jakarta area, West Java and Kalimantan could not operate due to interrupted supply.

Chairman of the National Oil and Gas Businessmen Association (Hiswana Migas), Nur Adib, said the closing of some of the fuel stations is Pertamina’s fault. According to him, since the beginning of the year Pertamina has changed its ordering and redemption system to an online system.

"Now, the system is disrupted such that there are no shipments since this morning," said Adib when contacted in Jakarta, Friday, Dec. 2.

Adib said that at this time the Association is planning to meet with Pertamina in order to obtain an explanation regarding the online system error.

In entering the beginning of the new year, fuel scarcity is indeed apparent in various cities and regions. For example, two fuel stations in the Pagaden district, Subang, on the main artery towards Cirebon. Indeed, another fuel station in the area had experienced scarcity since yesterday, Jan. 1. “I came here yesterday and it was empty. Now I come here again, and it’s still empty,” said Maman, a customer looking for fuel.

According to VIVAnews observation, due to the lack of premium fuel in a number of fuel stations, several motorists were forced to buy fuel from retail suppliers, where the prices are more expensive.”Well, what else can we do? There was no premium fuel at the fuel station,” said Euis, a motorcycle rider.
