Indonesia Should Evaluate Diplomatic Role
VIVAnews - The House of Representatives (DPR) Commission on Defense, Intelligence and Foreign Affairs believes that the government should evaluate the role of country's diplomacy in the international community, such as with regard to the issue of Israel and Palestine.
According to member of DPR Commission on Defense, Security and Foreign Affairs, Happy Bone Zulkarnain, the role of Indonesia's diplomacy should undergo total review because so far the country has only delivered criticisms. "And it was only aimed at satisfying the domestic community," he said on Saturday, Jan 3.
Zulkarnain said that concerning the Israel-Palestine clash, an effective diplomatic formula must be prepared to urge Israel to stop the attacks. "It is indeed difficult. Not to mention Indonesia, even the United Nations is unable to take any measure," said Zulkarnain.
In addition, said Zulkarnain, the Department of Foreign Affaris has allocated immense sums for diplomacy. There should be total evaluation on Indonesia's diplomacy, and one of them should be a comprehensive diplomacy policy.
Indonesia must make use of a third-party country having direct diplomatic relationship with Israel as an intermediary. This is because, he said, "Indonesia does not have any diplomatic connection with Israel."
He went on to say that Indonesia must also utilize the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN); for as far as geopolitics is concerned, Asia is a region that has most heavily criticized Israel's agression against Palestine.
Zulkarnain also said that the aggression was in fact categorized as an act of brutality because it has claimed 200 Palestinian infants and children. "That's genocide, and that's an insult towards the existence of a people," he said.
