Flight Ban Expected to be Lifted by March

VIVAnews – Minister of Transportation Jusman Syafei Djamal hopes that the flight ban from European Union (EU) would be lifted as soon as the government issues Law no. 1/2009.

According to Djamal, the flight ban that has been applied since July 2007 involves issues that are technical in nature. “Almost all the questions posed by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) have been answered in Law no. 1/2009,” said Djamal, during a gathering to discuss the law at his office, Monday night, Jan. 19.

Djamal said that a meeting discussing the lifting of the ban would be held in March 2009. Indonesia has already started to cooperate with the Netherlands regarding several issues that formed the bases of the ban. “There is no reason to extend the ban,” said Djamal.

The gathering, attended by hundreds of aviation companies is aimed at increasing their understanding of the changes made in Law no. 15/1992, including creating an improved business climate in the national aviation industry. “The Cape Town Convention has been adopted such that the aviation industry can conduct its business more freely,” said Djamal.
