VIVAnews - Commander of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (Unifil) Maj. Gen. Claudio Graziano acknowledged that the Indonesian Military (TNI) peace-keeping troops have a significant role in carrying out world peace mission taking into account the position of the Indonesian Military troops in the borders of Israel and the Litani River, the end zone of Unifil's operation.
"In addition to the strategic position, which directly borders with Israel, the Indonesian contingent has a key role in the Unifil's area of responsibility," said Maj. Gen. Graziano on Sunday, Feb 1.
According to him, the key factor is that the Indonesian troops have close relations with local inhabitants.
This is one of the reasons of why the Force Protection Unit to Lebanon was from Indonesia. Tight relations with local people helps Unifil to solve problems.
