Iranian Satellite Not Only Belonged to Islam

VIVAnews - President of State Islamic University (UIN) of Syarif Hidayatullah, Prof. Komaruddin Hidayat, congratulated Iran for the launching of Iranian Omid satellite which took place on Monday, Feb 2. The salutation was conveyed through Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Indonesia, Behrooz Kamalvandi.

"I am proud of the satellite lauch. It displays the success of Islamic scientists," said Hidayat when opening an International Seminar entitled "Religion in Contemporary World" in Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University on Thursday, Feb 5.

According to Hidayat, the launching of Omid (literally "hope") shows that Muslims are not inferior to other devotees such as Jews. Although science knows no religion, some considered Omid as a satellite belonging to Islam.

Kamalvandi refuted the opinion that the satellite was only attributed to Islam. The satellite launch, he went on to say, was aimed at a humanitarian mission. As far as the issue is concerned, humanity does not only belong to Islam.

Professor Sayyid Yaser Khomeini, grandson of late Ayatollah Khomeini, also attended the seminar.

Khomeini gave a speech during the first session of the seminar on the function of religion in organizing the contemporary world based on Ayatollah Khomeini's views.

In addition to Yaser Khomeini, several national and international observers on Islam will brought forth their speeches. They include Amien Rais, Jalaludin Rakhmat and a Malaysian, Ali Taufik Alatas.
