Govt Performance and Responsibility

VIVAnews - The national survey is done by the Institute for Social and Economic Research, Education and Information (LP3ES) from 1 to 10 December 2008. There were 2,490 respondents with 95 percent confidence rate. The respondents were Indonesian citizens who have the right to vote the general election, i.e. minimum 17 years old or married when the survey was conducted. The sampling was done using probability sampling with a proportional number in every province.

The respondents rated the government's performance in several categories, i.e. supplying staples, housing, health services, education services, refined fuel oil (BBM) price rate implementation, corruption eradication, and fertilizer supply.

The category which is considered the most unsuccessful is the BBM price rate (51 percent), followed by providing staples (50 percent), overcoming fertilizer scarcity (46 percent), and housing supply (25 percent).

Categories whereby the government is deemed to have been successful in are health services (59 percent), education services (56 percent) and overcoming malnutrition (40 percent).

Government performance on corruption eradication is only considered successful by 36 percent of the people.

Those who thought that the economic condition is better than before makes up only 36.5 percent of the total respondents and those who predicted that the condition in the future will be better makes up 20.5 percent of the respondents.

The public believed that the President is the one who is most responsible for the staples supply (68 percent), housing supply (49 percent), health services provision (47 percent), education services provision (50 percent), BBM prices (77 percent), corruption eradication (76 percent), and fertilizer scarcity (43 percent).
