Found with Explosives, Fishermen Arrested

VIVAnews - The Sikka police department, East Nusa Tenggara has confiscated more than four sacks of explosives after a search operation in Pemana Island, Sikka Regency. These explosives were found on two fishermen, La Undu (43) and Kardi (27). Both have been placed under arrest and have been declared as suspects.

The police also secured two ready-to-use assembled bombs, two bottles of active explosive, nine detonator cables, seventeen detonators, six fuses, and four kilograms of ammonium nitrate.

The Chief of Sikka police department Adjutant Commissioner Agus Suryatno through the Head of Investigation and Crime Unit, Adj. Com. Parasian Gultom confirmed to reporters that the explosives were found inside one of the suspects' house.

"The arrest was made last Saturday after we received information from the local people. When arrested, they were both assembling bombs," said Gultom who said that he was personally in charge in the operation. 

According to him, the two bottles of assembled bombs were already connected to the detonators. Two other bottles had not yet finished. To the investigators, both suspects admitted that they have been using bombs to catch fish.

"They admitted that they've been blast fishing for about a year in Sikka waters," said Gultom. "Both suspects are facing 20 years in prison."
