The Australian Minister for Immigration and Citizenship, Chris Evans, said the visa is intended for students and college students aged between 18 and 30 years old. "[They] can work while taking a one-year holiday," Evans said.

Despite the travel warning for Indonesia, citizens from both countries are listed as having high travel records. "There are hundreds of thousands of Australians coming to Indonesia," he said. Tens of thousands of Indonesians also make trip to Australia.

"This MoU is aiming at maintaining a long-term relationship between the two countries," he added.

Meanwhile Minister of Justice and Human Rights, Andi Mattalatta, considered that the travel warning policy issued by the Australian government does not affect Indonesia significantly. "With the MoU, we will turn the travel warning into travel promotion," he said.
