VIVAnews - PT Aneka Tambang Tbk. (Antam) aims the business opportunity in developing a copper smelter factory with an investment valuing US$700 million.
According to the Development Director of Antam, Tato Miraza, the copper concentrate will be taken from PT Newmont's mines at Batu Hijau and Freeport. "We will develop a smelter," he said on Monday, March 16.
He also stated that the idea to process copper from those two mines is taken because the Mineral and Coal Law (Minerba) No.4/2009 prohibits abroad copper concentrate processing into copper, as the mining contractors have been doing all this time.
Yet, he said that the company has not decided the location to build the smelter factory.
Meanwhile, Miraza explained that Newmont and Freeport has been using Smelter Gresik to process their products.
