Badawi's Visit to Enhance Bilateral Relation

VIVAnews - The Malaysia Prime Minister's, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, visit to Indonesia on March 16-17 was intended to increase the bilateral cooperation.

"This visit is related to the sixth annual consultation meeting between Indonesia and Malaysia," said the presidential spokesperson Dino Patti Djalal on Tuesday, March 17. Badawi was accompanied by his wife and ministers.

The consultation meeting also discussed the bilateral relation between Indonesia and Malaysia in many sectors, also the regional and international issue development. "The meeting also discussed the success achieved by both countries on several strategies which have been discussed on previous meeting."

The achievement covers the increase on trade volume between two countries. The 2007 trade volume reached US$11.5 billion, while in January-November 2008 period, the volume reached US$14.6 billion.

Malaysia's investment realization in Indonesia values US$363 million in 2008 and US$217 million in 2007.

After closing the annual consultation, both leaders will be scheduled to receive recommendation from Eminent Person Group (EPG). The recommendation covers efforts to increase and develop the bilateral relation. On that occasion, both leaders will open a dialog on reviving collective memory of inter-nations' history.
