Pakistan Requests Entry Fee Reduction

VIVAnews - Pakistan has asked the Indonesian government to reduce several entry fees. The request is stated in the partnership trading agreement between Pakistan and Indonesia.

"They are asking for an additional 42 fees [reduction] which mostly on textile and textile products, and leather products," said the director general of International Trading Agreement for the Trade Department Gusmardi Bustami after the opening ceremony of the new training and education center building of the Trade Department in Depok, West Java on Tuesday March 17.

Bustami said that the previous entry fees of those certain products reached 15 percent. Later, Indonesia agreed to lower it to 9 percent, but now Pakistan asked to lower the fees based on ASEAN fees of 5 percent.

He said that Indonesia asked the same cut on paper, sorbitol, and ceramics. "They are asking for textile and leather, we're asking the same for those three products, so we're also asking for [being] packaged," he said.

In regard to Pakistan's request on kino-variant orange, Bustami said that Indonesia has already agreed on the five percent entry fee for Pakistan kino-variant orange at harvest season, i.e. November until March, although Pakistan had previously asked for an exemption.

The request on kino-variant orange was answered by Indonesia's request to have the same entry fee into Pakistan, just like Malaysia, for raw palm oil valuing 10 percent. "We will try the first year, we will continue if the other requests are approved," he added.

Other than Pakistan, Indonesia is building partnership with Chili and Tunisia. "[There will be] joint study group this year in Tunisia," he said.

Meanwhile, Indonesia is still arranging the cooperation framework with Chili. "It is agreed in two joint study group meetings, maybe a part of the framework will be agreed in June 2009."
