VIVAnews - Creative industry which is based on idea and exclusivity with small economic scale is open for development. In the future, the national creative industry will lead to the creation of artistic and creative cities with their own uniqueness.
Head of Bandung Creative City Ridwan Kamil said that in Indonesia creativity is strongly related to small and medium enterprises. "Almost every creative industry is a small enterprise and it grows bigger during the crisis," he said in a workshop for journalists entitled "Intellectual Property Role in improving the Growth of Creative Industry Economy" in FX Plaza, Jakarta, on Wednesday, March 18.
Kamil said that the growth of a city will be more concentrated on the increase of creative business. "The growth of creative economy will create cities with their own uniqueness. If a region doesn't show its creativity, the creative workers will move to a unique area," he explained.
He cited the change happened in Bandung when crisis created 'distro' (distribution outlet). Distro industry which emerged soon after the monetary crisis in 1997 grew from 15 stores to 400 brands in 2009. The average initial capital of a creative company reached around Rp 500,000 (US$41.67) and after 10 years, it grows into a company whose turnover reaches Rp 5 billion (US$41.67 million). "The creative industry in Indonesia is very independent, the government just needs to give support to multiply the number," he added.
Based on the experiences in Bandung, the creative industry provides job opportunity without being affected by the global change. "The market of creative industry is domestic, and still [has] a very wide [market]," he said.
Yet, according to some testimonials of the creators in this field, the main obstacles in the Indonesian creative industry include, among others, royalty, knowledge on intellectual property, distribution process, and regulation process.
A film producer, Anastasia Damayanti, said that the government's support for creative industry tends to hardly materialize.
