2012, Indonesia's Wood Growth to Increase

VIVAnews - The government is targeting that the growth in Indonesia's wood industry will increase by 2012. According to Forestry Minister MS Kaban on Sunday, March 22, other countries will be having difficulties in competing with Indonesia.

According to Kaban, the archipelago affects the world's climate. "The stipulation of Law on Lexi Ex in the United States helps Indonesia to fight against illegal logging," said Kaban.

The law regulates wood supply in the market because it demands accurate data and information on the origin of the produced wood. Kaban was optimistic that Indonesia's rank will be better due to its support to the environment. For the time being, Indonesia is on 10th position on the list of countries with environmental health.

In 2009, the government is targeting to plant around 4.5 million trees. The 'one man one tree' program is expected to be able to reduce the deforestation rate in the country. "The government still maintains wood whose production has clear legal status," said Kaban.

So far, in order to prevent the forest from being leafless, the Department of Forestry has proposed for additional forest police personnel.
