Democratic Party Targeting 20% of Votes

VIVAnews - Democratic Party is targeting that it will garner 20 percent of votes in South Sulawesi, the hometown of Golkar Party Chairman as well as Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla, in the coming Elections.

Democratic Party Secretary of South Sulawesi, Haidar Madjid, told VIVAnews that it was a normal target.

"The people of South Sulawesi is very enthusiastic upon welcoming the arrival of Head of Democratic Party's Board of Trustees, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, in the campaign," said Madjid on Sunday, March 22.

It will be hard to reach the target because it is possible that South Sulawesi will be dominated by Golkar Party.

He also said that Democratic Party of South Sulawesi will focus on how to underscore Yudhoyono's success in presiding the government within the last five years such as loans for farmers and fishermen, school operational fund (BOS) and food self-sufficiency. Having the programs as such, Democratic Party of South Sulawesi can compete with Golkar Party, which won the 2004 Elections.

In the 2004 Elections, Democratic Party only gained 99,107 votes, or 2.64 percent of total 3,750,299 legal votes, in South Sulawesi.
