VIVAnews - The Jakarta elections commission does not have enough fund to set up mobile voting spots (TPS) in hospitals. This condition could increase the number of non-voters.
"This year, there won't be any mobile TPS that can reach all public service locations, such as hospital, unlike the last elections," said Head of Jakarta Elections Commission Juri Ardiantoro on Monday, March 23.
To exercise their voting rights, patients have to return home where they are registered in the final list of voters (DPT). Another alternative for patients is that they can arrange a transfer letter enabling them to be able to vote from the nearest voting spot from the hospital. "If they don't do it, they won't be able to use their voting rights," he said.
Voting spot transfer can be carried out three days before the elections at the latest. "We admit that the socialization on the absence of mobile voting spot is still low. In fact, it is actually important for us to [inform] because there are many complicated issues that need to be heard by the public," he said.
The fund which is provided to the provincial elections commission is around Rp 100 million (US$8,487). The elections commission at regencies/municipalities allocate Rp 6 millions (US$509.25). The sub-district voting committee is given Rp 500,000 (US$42.44) and Rp 250,000 (US$21.22) for voting committee at administrative villages. "The worst thing is that there isn't any fund for technical training for officers in the voting committee group [KPPS] and TPS," he said.
