VIVAnews - The volume of exports on the first quarter of 2009 tumbled by 30 percent compared to the same period of last year. It has caused exports and imports activities at Tanjung Priok Harbor to decrease.
"It was the data per March 20, 2009," said Director General of Customs and Excise, Anwar Suprijadi, on Friday, March 27. The decrease was 38 percent lower than it was concerning imports.
He said the decrease will continue due to the global economic crisis.
The current situation causes some exporters to be rejected by buyers. "We are trying to give them facilities to avoid them from problems," he said.
Directorate General of Customs and Excises will make use of the decrease in exports and imports to set out reform by dividing exports and imports in customs office.
Given the current situation, Customs and Excise provides relaxation -such as administrative facilities- to enable business people work.
"In the past, one year without any exports will lead to penalty. Today, it may exceed one year. However, this is only aimed at low-risk businesses," he said.
