Elections Survey

Democratic Party Tops List

VIVAnews - Three-week open campaigns do not alter the map of political parties, Indonesian polling agency Lembaga Survei Indonesia (LSI) concluded on April 5.

During the survey conducted over 2486 respondents, 26.6 percent of them stated that they would choose Democratic Party (Demokrat); 14.5 percent would choose Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP); and 13 percent would choose Functional Group (Golkar) Party.

According to LSI Research Director Uskrido Ambari, the survey has been conducted since March 31 and April 1, 2009 with 2,3 margin of error and 96 percent of confidence rate. "By paying attention to the margin of error, the second and third position may gain new position," Ambari told reporters.

According to Ambari, the disparity of votes between Golkar and PDIP is insignificant in terms of the statistics and is still within the margin of error.

Ambari went on to say that National Mandate Party (PAN) is on fourth position by 5.1 percent, Justice and Prosperous Party (PKS), 4.9 percent, United Development Party (PPP), 4.8 percent, and National Awakening Party (3.6 percent).
