VIVAnews - An Avia Star airplance crashed in Wamena, Papua, on Thursday, April 9. According to an official at the Sentani airstrip, Papua, the airplane indeed took off from Sentani airstrip.
"But since there was no schedule, we did not know when the airplane took off," the airport official told VIVAnews on Thursday.
Another source at Sentani Airport said the Head of the Sentani Airport is still clarifying about the incident to the related airline. "As far as I am concerned, the airplane did not crash during its flight from Jayapura to Wamena. It went down during its flight from Wamena to Jayapura," he said.
The airplane transported fuel from Jayapura. It was then crashed on Pikey River, Karulu District, Jayawijaya Regency.
The incident killed four including Pilot Captain Sigit, Co-Pilot Lukman and two technicians. The victims are now at Wamena Hospital.
Report said that the airplane experienced problem before it landed at Wamena Airport around 7 am local time on Thursday, April 9. At a sudden, a smoke was seen billowing upward on Wamena Hill.
Earlier, Avia Star Manager, Marcell, said he remained uninformed of the cargo being transported by the airplane. "We are yet to be able to predict the amount of losses caused by the incident," he said during an interview with tvOne on Thursday.
