Blind Voters Protest Commission

VIVAnews - Tension emerged at voting spot Jagra, Buah Batu Subdistrict, Bandung, West Java. Those voters who are blind protested due to the absence of a socialization of the Elections, causing them to be confused during the voting spot. The blind people did not recognize the names of the legislator candidates.

"We are only informed about the names of the legislator candidates after we arrived at the voting spot. I am complaining to the local elections commission (KPPS) for not providing enough information to voters. I was in quarrel with the KPPS head because they did not respect the blind," said Ila Hadijah on Thursday, April 9.

Hadijah also criticized that the blind is escorted during the Elections. According to her, it has violated the Elections principles of free and fair Elections. "The blind should not be escorted," she said.

Meanwhile, Head of the Blind Association of Bandung, Ade Rahmat, said the current Elections has discriminated blind voters.

"The information on how to mark the ballot, voting regulation as well as names of legislator candidates should also be delivered to blind voters. The budget is available anyway," he said.

The minimum information caused the blind to face difficulties in voting for legislator candidates. "The guidance used by the blind to mark the ballot slips. Therefore, we may mis-mark the ballot," he said.
