Fiscal Stimulus to be Stopped in 2010

VIVAnews - The government will prioritize the allocation of the 2010 State Budget for the well-being of the nation as well as the reform of bureaucracy. However, the government may not issue policies on fiscal stimulation such as was in 2009.

Head of the National Development Planning Agency, Paskah Suzetta, said the Ministry of National Planning Agency is preparing the 2010 government working plan with the Department of Finance.

According to the minister, regarding the economic growth, it is possible that the economic growth in 2010 can be better than it is in 2009.

"The 2009 fiscal stimulus program is aimed at preventing Indonesia from being seriously affected by the crisis," said Suzetta at the Department of Finance on Monday, April 13.

He reminded that the economic growth during the first quarter of 2009 is figured to be above four percent. "Despite the decrease in imports in 2010, we can boost [the growth] through domestic consumption," he said.

Suzetta said the economic growth is encouraged by the well absorption of ministerial/institutional budget as well as the sound consumption rate. "We are hoping that the growth will continue in the second quarter of the year," he said.
