Police Renews Agreement on Human Rights

VIVAnews - The Indonesian Police and the Indonesian National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) will continue their partnership in law enactment concerning police officers involving in cases of Human Rights violations.

"Earlier, there was an MoU (memorandum of understanding) on the issue so that [the agreement] will be renewed," said Public Relations Divion Head of Indonesian Police Headquarters Police Inspector General Abubakar Nataprawira.

According to Nataprawira, there are several revisions on the previous MoU. When being asked about the revisions, he said he was not yet informed of the changed points.

He said that in the previous partnership agreement, the Indonesian Police HQs and Komnas HAM agreed to share information if there are police officers involving in the cases of Human Rights violations. Before the MoU was signed, the Indonesian Police and Komnas HAM investigated the involved officers by their own.

In addition to the partnership, he said, the Indonesian Police guarantees that there will be no intervention.
