VIVAnews - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has officially disbanded Aceh and Nias Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Agency (BRR) at the Presidential Office on Friday, April 17. The BRR worked in the post-tsunami period in Aceh and Nias.
"The international community supports the great work created by the nation's best people at the aftermath of the tsunami and earthquake in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam and Nias Islands," said BRR Aceh and Nias Board of Advisors who is also Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law and Security Widodo AS.
27 ambassadors from countries who have participated in the rehabilitation and reconstruction process.
The BRR is mandated through Regulation in Lieu of Law No.2/2005 which is then encouraged by Law No.10/2005. The agency succeeded in coordinating and implementing various rehabilitation and reconstruction projects in Aceh and Nias valuing to Rp 80 trillion (US$7.2 billion), funded by the Indonesian government, friendly countries and the contribution from people across the globe.
Together with more than 500 national and international organizations from 50 countries, the BRR has rebuilt Aceh and Nias and achieved more than 94.18 percent of the set target.
In four years, more than 140,000 homes have been set up in Aceh and Nias. 3,600 kilometers of new roads have been constructed. 12 airports and airstrips as well as 20 harbors have been built. Almost 1,500 school units, 1,100 health facilities, 987 state buildings, 195,000 small- and medium-sized enterprises have been made available.
