Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) M. Lutfi said that Jakarta is a spot having highest foreign capital compared to other regions. Investment in the province reaches US$9.6 billion consisting of 404 projects.
"This is proof that investors' trust over investment and business climate in Indonesia is improving," said Lutfi. He hoped that it will help boost the government's confidence, especially regional governments, so that more investors will invest in the future.
The second province that is fancied by investors is West Java with total investment of US$2.39 billion, consisting of 255 projects. Riau comes third with US$460.9 million of investment and 8 projects.
As for domestic investors, although the value has decreased by 51 percent compared to the same period in 2007, the number of projects have increased by 210 projects compared to January-November period in 2007 with 148 projects.
The main regions that domestic investors aim include West Java with total investment of Rp 3.67 trillion (52 projects); East Java with investment of Rp 2.6 trillion (37 projects); and Banten with investment of Rp 1.9 trillion (29 projects).
According to BKPM Head, investment growth in these 11 months reached 15.5 percent. Industrial sectors that contributed large benefits including transportation, warehouse and communication, metal industry, machineries and electronics and automotive industry.
"The most pleasing fact of all is that employment absorption from new investment reaches 650 thousand people," Lutfi said.
