VIVAnews - A Russian, initials SEV, was kidnapped in Jakarta on Monday, Dec 8.
The case was unveiled after Vladimir Pronin, 45, Consular at the Russian Embassy in Jakarta, filed a report to Jakarta Police Department on Tuesday, Dec 9.
Proni was directly informed by the victim's wife, initials SOV. According to her, the incident started with the victim being invited to Jakarta by his business partner, initials AEV, on 29 November.
SOV had lost contact with her husband for two days. On 1 December, 2008, her husband called her from +7495970954. During that conversation, he said that he was being held in a room. He said he was given a poisonous drink which had caused him to lose consciousness. Half-conscious, he was put in front of a man carrying a bag of drugs. The man claimed that he was a police officer. The connection was then cut off.
Few moments later, SOV reveived a phone call from +6281280248411. The caller claimed to be her husband's kidnapper and requested ransom amounting to US$200 thousand. SOV said yes and transferred the demanded money to UniCredit account No:4908556003259062.
However, after the money was transferred, the kidnappers still contacted SOV and asked for more money to assure SEV's safety. Reportedly, the kidnappers had withdrawn the ransom of US$4,600 through Bank Permata of Bekasi and Jakarta branches.
Chief of Crime with Acts of Violence Division at the Jakarta Police Department, Adjutant Chief Commissioner Niko Afinta said that the case is being investigated. "[The suspects are] still being pursued. It takes time," he said.
